A Personal Turning Point
When I received my job promotion to Washington, DC in 2014, everything shifted. On paper, it looked like success—more pay, a bigger title, a move that marked me as chosen. But inside? I was quietly holding a storm.
As a family, we moved in January 2015. Just a few months later, in April, my ex-husband and I separated then later divorced. That promotion didn’t feel like a celebration—it felt like survival. I was navigating unfamiliar cities, learning a new role, managing the pressure to perform at work, and trying to fit into a professional culture where I often felt unseen.
At the same time, I was attempting to show up for my children—witnessing them adjust, helping them feel safe amid so much change, while barely having time to process my own. I felt the weight of doing well in a role that was new and demanding, while still being emotionally and energetically available at home. My nervous system was frail, stretched thin, and crumbling. My inner world was shifting. And yet, something in me refused to abandon myself.
That season didn’t break me. It awakened me.
Life showed me it was time to consider unlearning the belief that productivity equaled worth. I started peeling back the layers of who I thought I needed to be—and began reconnecting with who I truly was. That wasn’t a neat or instant process. It was messy. Tender. Sacred.
But it taught me something that no textbook or seminar ever could teach me. Professional growth without personal grounding leads to burnout. And now, I bring that lived clarity into the space I hold for others.
